Now I'm a little afraid to experiment because of the damage I caused to the mat last night.

I've been buying my mylar from stencil sellers who sell rolls of the stuff, but I will definitely look for the plastic sold for making quilting templates. I can at least figure out how thick it is.Sharon Kwilterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00204757096377140896noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8688737200861236433.post-26417356311199013122013-04-04T08:42:03.995-07:002013-04-04T08:42:03.995-07:00Thanks for the advice. I didn't spend much time cruising their tutorials yesterday.Sharon Kwilterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00204757096377140896noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8688737200861236433.post-47076230120515901902013-04-04T08:16:19.550-07:002013-04-04T08:16:19.550-07:00you certainly are persistent...you certainly are persistent...donaleenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04048312365729793607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8688737200861236433.post-37150102752155011792013-04-04T07:13:39.508-07:002013-04-04T07:13:39.508-07:00I've successfully cut stencils out of thick pl...I've successfully cut stencils out of thick plastic with my Silhouette. I used the stencil plastic sold for making quilting templates. Be sure to increase the cutting depth of the blade so it goes through. Also, I figured out an easy way to get all those little pieces off the cutting mat without sacrificing my fingernails; it's on my blog (http://thereshesews.blogspot.com/clearing-the-silhouette-mat.html).Welmoed Sissonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16497763134207170293noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8688737200861236433.post-71631088205507549222013-04-04T06:38:09.763-07:002013-04-04T06:38:09.763-07:00Thank you for all that information. Take contact paper, peel off the sticky side, press your hands or a towel on it several times to make it not quite as sticky (season it), lay your mylar down on the sticky side and load it into the machine on the setting that calls for no mat. You don't use a mat to cut vinyl either. You just load it straight into the machine. I have an older Silhouette and I love it. I use it to cut applique pieces for quilts.Kathiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03078520347422991774noreply@blogger.com
