But sometimes the picture rail is running at an angle, like in the den. How do you hang a picture on this? This looks stupid and we'll be reworking it.
Quite a lot of the pictures don't have hooks or rings on the back so I need to try and find some to install. Also, some of the best wall space we have is in the stairwell where the picture rail is maybe 14 feet above the stairs. I have no idea how we'll be getting art up there.
Sweetheart, just drill a hole in the wall and use a picture hanger and hang your art the normal way. There's nothing magic about plaster ... except that it's hard and can crack unless you drill a pilot hole.
ReplyDeleteWe just put holes in the plaster, too. We use anchors on the heavier items. But I completely understand if you don't want to make holes in your walls.
ReplyDeleteI really hate to put holes in the plaster, because I expect we'll regularly be moving the art around or changing it seasonally, but there are probably some areas where we'll have to. Thanks for the suggestion.
Deletewhat about using the removable 3M velcro wall hanging things? We use those and there are no holes in the plaster-although they will occasionally take paint off when they are removed. Way better to add a little paint than put a hole in your plaster...in my opinion :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the idea. I will definitely explore the velcro option for the small pictures in the den. I'm not sure it would work with the huge art in the stairway.
DeleteI have to agree with the others, just drill a hole for the super awkward spots. OR, what you can do, is to install a nail dead-centre in the rail, and attach your wire to that, so it will look like it's hanging from the rail, and you can easily swap the art later (and it will hang down centered in the same place).
ReplyDeleteNow that is a good idea, to put a nail in the picture rail. I think I'll do that.
