Period Book: The Home Beautiful (1915)

This week's book is really just a woodwork sales brochure. I thought the pictures were beautiful, even though they're mostly all black and white, so I decided to share them here on the blog. The brochure is called The Home Beautiful and was published by Farley & Loetscher Mfg. Co. in 1915 showing their suggestions for interior woodwork. "A book of practical information for builders of up-to-date homes."

This is another post with a lot of pictures, so I'm going to insert a page break. If you want to see all the pictures, you'll have to open the post.

Anyway, the brochure can be downloaded here for free from Internet Archive.

It includes color pictures of a number of stain options.

It shows a number of suggestions for finished dining rooms.
Dining Room finished with Mahogany
Modern Dining Room with beamed ceiling and skeleton wainscoting
Dining Room with unusual recesses to accommodate vases, etc.
Dining Room with Unique Sideboard
And they had several options for the living room and adjoining spaces.
Bookcase Colonnade
Living Room with Reading Nook
Living Room Fireplace with Bookcases
Bookcase Colonnades
Reception Hall
I thought these were an especially beautiful bedroom and sunroom.

  1. I love these old publications. If you haven't seen it, check out Elsie de Wolfe's "The House In Good Taste". It is available free at www.gutenberg.org. Her decorating advice is still sound almost 100 years later.

    1. Thanks for the recommendation. That book is on my list; I may get to it later this year.
