Sorry, folks, Google has obviously discontinued some photo service that I used for this page. Frankly, I don't have the energy to fix it, but many of the shopping links still work so I'll leave this page up. My apologies that most of the art is missing now.

I have a great interest in period stencils. In my research, I have found many original stencil catalogs and it has become my ongoing quest to locate sources for period designs. I've decided it is worth consolidating them here.

    This page deserves a "Wow!". Extensive, exhaustive research. I had no idea there would still be commercial sources available for fine stencilwork. Gorgeous & thank-you.

    What wonderful research! Thank you for finding the modern sources and linking them! I did the same kind of digging a few years ago looking for just the right stencil for my bungalow kitchen in upstate NY. I came up with Dard Hunter's rose, based upon a Roycroft rose (he initially worked with the Roycrofters, not sure if the design was origInally his, I believe it is. See: http://www.dardhunter.com/About.htm ). Anyway, here is his "Rose and Stem" stencil: http://www.dardhunter.com/item/Rose--Stem-Stencil-136 .

    I stenciled the rose onto either side of an alcove in my kitchen which used to house a small table and two benches.

    I am about to stencil the rose onto linen cafe curtains I am making. Any advice you can give re. embroidering the stencil would be welcome. I have Amy Miller's book, awesome resource! Did you use silk embroidery floss?
