More Woodwork Staining

Much to my surprise, I have started staining the woodwork in the basement bathroom! :D

The last time I started and got derailed was in Feb 2012. I'm not sure why it took me more than 3 years to get back to this project. It didn't actually take that many hours to clear out the bathroom and vacuum everything and wipe down the woodwork. Masking was sort of a pain because I felt I had to protect the tile from the drippy stain and it's a good thing I did. Yuck, that stain is awful. And, OMG, the smell. The entire house stinks like stain.

Anyway, the first coat is now done. This watery stain probably would have looked better if I used a pre-stain, but oh well. I was too lazy. The gel stain will likely smooth it out and it will look better.

I haven't decided yet what I'm doing in the hallway. It has a lot more MDF in it, so I'll probably end up painting it.

We are so gonna rock our project wish list this summer. :D

Update a few hours later (3PM): Finished!! I still need to paint the one piece of MDF on the doorway crown.
I ran out of stain so I wasn't able to apply the 2nd coat of stain to the sink cabinet. I must go shopping tomorrow. :(
